LO 1.2

Learning Outcome: 1.2
Explain how early literacy & numeracy concepts are socially situated, through explaining how young children’s literacy & numeracy learning can be socially conveyed through their behaviour, feelings or approach

Throughout my blog post about 'Making meaning of ourselves and the world we live in…' I focus on how, through the use of literacy and numeracy, we as humans begin to comprehend ourselves and the world we live in. The two key texts I used are:
1.    Isbell, R., Sobol, J., Lindauer, L., & Lowrance, A. (2004). The Effects of Storytelling and Story Reading on the Oral Language Complexity and Story Comprehension of Young Children. Early Childhood Education Journal, 32(3), 157-163.
2.   Clements, D. H., & Sarama, J. (2011). Early Childhood Mathematics Intervention. Science, 333, 968-970.

I explained broadly how early literacy and numeracy concepts can contribute to meaning-making in young children, encouraging children to feel safe and secure, and establish a sense of belonging in their world. This enables children to explore, create and socialise with other children in activities they enjoy doing and establishing discussion through literacy and numeracy development; it is the educators role to these opportunities are available to the children to engage in.
