Refer to LO 1.1- This post I talk about literacy and numeracy development through play, with Jean Piaget, a Swiss developmental psychologist and philosopher known for studies around the development of children, stages of play. Piaget classified play into three different categories corresponding to different stages of cognitive development: practice play, which dominates the sensorimotor stage (from birth to approximately 2 years of age); symbolic play that becomes prominent during the preoperational stage (from ages 2 to 7); and games with rules, which comes into prominence during the concrete operational stage (ages 7 to 11).
